Kuniyoshi - The Visionary of the Floating World

Bizarre worlds, visionary landscapes, stunning women as well as kabuki actors, cats, carp, mythical and fantastical creatures along with legendary heroes, samurais and brigands. These are the protagonists of the work of Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861), to which numerous exhibitions have been dedicated in recent years, both in Japan and worldwide.

For the first time Italy too is paying homage to Kuniyoshi, the undisputed master of the early 19th-century ukiyo-e – a genre of Japanese art taking the form of woodblock print on paper – who has had such an influence upon the culture of manga, anime, tattoos and contemporary pop culture in general.
